When the world put itself back together again, it was to the aural accompaniment of Martha swearing, loudly and vividly, which must have been a rude awakening for the two Angels, in more ways than one.

“Graham,” snapped the old warlock, pointedly, “if you were going to come back with two extra bodies rather than one, it is considered polite to warn the daft old bitch doing the magic about the weight change! This isn’t as easy as I make it look.”

“Sorry.”

“A lesser person would have just let you all split into atoms somewhere over the Atlantic.”

“Thank you.”

She glared at me. “Do your friends want tea?”

“Martha,” I had to ask, “are you not a little curious that this man is me?” I motioned to Remus.

Martha shrugged. “If you think that’s the oddest thing to pass through this shop, then you don’t know me like I thought you did. I’ll make the tea.”

“She seems nice,” said Remus politely, as Martha busied herself with turning on the burner.

“No, she doesn’t,” I countered.

“She brought us here to safety,” said Lelia. “I think Graham is right.”

“You can’t call us both ‘Graham’,” I objected.

“Why not?”

“It’s confusing.”

Martha snorted noisily from the stove, stifling a laugh. “Yeah. The two of you are so hard to tell apart. However will we manage?”

“We’re the same person!”

“And yet, not obviously similar. I’m out of cups. Who is going to do the washing up?”

“I will,” volunteered Remus.

Martha pointed a finger at me. “You see? You’d never do that. Now what’s the plan?”

“Are we endangering you by being here?” asked Lelia. “If so, we should leave. I don’t want anyone harmed on my account.”

“Heaven can’t find us for the present,” Martha replied.

“They’re no longer the only ones looking,” I added, darkly.

Martha pulled a face. “Legion too? That may be a problem. I said Heaven wouldn’t figure out how I’ve hidden the shop on account of it being a bit underhand, well that won’t stop a demon. If he looks, he’ll find it.”

“We won’t stop long,” I assured her.

Martha shook her head. “Didn’t you plan ahead at all?”

“Not this far,” I admitted. “It seemed unlikely everything else would work.”

“Fair enough. So again; what now?”

Quickly I explained about the mark on Lelia’s arm that made her Legion’s personal incubator. “Can you remove it?” I asked.

Martha poured the tea as she thought. “I don’t know, Graham. I’ve never heard of anyone removing the mark of a demon. Once a bride, always a bride. There again, it’s not something I know a lot about.” She paused to take a slug of her foul green tea. “Let me do some research, ask around, and I’ll get back to you.”

“How long?” I probably could have been more grateful, but we were on a clock. Hiding Lelia from Heaven was hard, hiding her from Legion was harder. Hiding her from both was like trying to roast and freeze a turkey at the same time.

“Give me a few days.”

“A few hours would be better.”

I expected Martha’s usual acerbic response, but she sighed and shook her head.
